Billy Joe Webb, also know as “Bill Webb” was born
on October 8, 1935. Bill is the son of the late Raymond Rudolph Webb and the
late Marie Brown Webb. He was born and raised in Spiro, Oklahoma. Bill attended Spiro High
School.
Bill is the brother of James W. Webb and Lou Ellender Webb. He is also the brother of the late Harvey Eugene Webb, the late Harold J. Webb, and
the late Raymond R. Webb
He left Oklahoma
for the military when he was 17 years old. When he completed his tour he moved
to Louisiana where he met and married his wife of 49 years,
Genevieve Theriot Webb. Bill Webb has been a resident in Marrero Louisiana
since 1956.
Bill Webb is the father of four (4) children, Donna Marie Webb
Loga, Debra Webb Gauthreaux, Michael Paul Webb and David Peter Webb.
He has eight (8) grand children and nine (9) great grandchildren.
Bill Webb worked in woodworking for more than 32 years. His most recent retirement was from the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department after 18 years.
Billy Joe Webb played music since the age of 15 when
he played the trombone at Spiro High School
in Spiro Oklahoma.
During the same time, he was learning to play the Steel Guitar. His first steel guitar was a six (6) string Gibson. Bill also plays the “Dobro” and some key board.
Bill Webb played the steel guitar with Nick and the Delta Boys
Cajun Band for many years. He also played with such bands as Stoney Carlisle
and the Texas Playboys, Paul Beach and the Hard Timers,
Alan Fontenot and the Country Cajuns, Jerry and the Starlights, and Big Winey and the Winos.
Over the years he played with many other local musicians
such as Richard Brown, Gilroy Juslin, Dudley Vicknair, Sr., Johnny Cambre, Norman Naquin, Steve Gros, Alan Gros, Carroll Bonvillion,
Joey Gill, the late Ray Gill, Big Tommy LeBlanc, DD Broussard, Al Louvelle, Raymond Tassin, Big Al Foret, and many others.
Bill Webb played many local places such as the Canal Bank
Inn, The Swamp Inn, The Keyhole, The Fireman’s Hall, Hank’s Place, The Moulin Rouge, The Scorpio, Girlie’s
Restaurant, Ronnie’s Bar, Pete’s Lounge, Fleur De Lis Motel and Bar, Pat’s Lounge, The A & A Bar, The
Sunrise Inn, Fuzzy’s Bar, The Cajun Inn, and many others.
Bill Webb wants to donate his old Fender Steel Guitar to the Westbank
Musician’s Museum.
Billy Joe Webb passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, just three
days after recieving his congratulations letter stating that he was selected to be inducted into the Westbank Musician's
Hall of Fame in 2007.
